New Orleans Mardi Gras
We drove to New Orleans on Sunday on the way down we stopped in a small town in Louisiana to interview Davy Crockett and The Wild Frontier. Yes that is their real name! We met up with them in Davy’s log cabin. When we walked in he had one of the biggest record collections I’ve ever seen. We interviewed the band in their rehearsal special and of course the walls were covered in pictures and a portion of it was naked women. After the interview we drove into New Orleans, unfortunately we got there exactly when all the parades started all around our hotel. We spent over an hour in the car trying to figure out how to get to the hotel. In the end they told us we had to park and walk. We parked the car and went to dinner watched the parade then checked in and waited for the roads to open up at 2am to get the car. The second day we walked around the French Quarter. Mardi Gras was more of a combination of Halloween and beads bring thrown off floats. We decided we wanted to see a little more of New Orleans so we took a bus to the Garden District the only problem was that there was a parade happening there and it took ages for us to move around. We finally made it back to the French Quarter that’s when we decided to not go farther than walking distance and just enjoy Mardi Gras. We saw an entire family dressed up as the Game of Thrones cast with a throne on wheels and everything. That night we ate at a great restaurant in the French Quarter called Royal House I had blackened fish it was the best meal I had in New Orleans. After dinner we went to Frenchman St. it is a street filled with tons of bars that have live music so we went bar hopping filming and listening to great music. We saw several bands our favorites were The Royal Roses and The Jazz Vipers .
Our last day in New Orleans was Fat Tuesday. Andy was determined to eat pancakes she even found a place that had gluten free, vegan pancakes for me. After breakfast we went to watch the parades where a not so sober lady gave me a mask. She said the one I had on wasn’t nice enough. Then we walked around Bourbon St. For some strange reason Bourbon street gets extremely crowded but so many cross streets are empty. We also made sure to get Andy a Beignet we stood in a 15 minute line but it was apparently worth it. As the day went on Bourbon street got worse and worse. As we were walking back to the hotel we decided to walk on Bourbon street one last time. I ended up getting lost in a mob of people grinding to some rap song I didn’t know. I have never felt so small and stuck. Eventually I found Andy and Robbie in our meet up point. The next day we got up early and drove to Austin.
